Trout Camp

From Fred Ruppel - The 2010 Trout Camp ended on Friday June 11 and was an outstanding success. Sherman and I spent the week and helped mentor the 24 campers. It was a great experience and extremely rewarding. I'm sure we learned as much as the campers. We got to work with our campers - Andrew Emmerton - Ben Trail's grandson and Jason Lieb - Rick O'Hara's nephew. These guys are fantastic kids that made us very proud that they represented our chapter. They all had a great time and I'm sure will help us maintain the TU mission.

Gold Rush Cup, Fly Fishing Challenge 2010

Plans are firming up for the 2nd Annual Gold Rush Cup. More details will be posted shortly but the following is what we have planned to date.

Saturday, November 6th will be an Amateur Qualifier. The winner will move on to compete in the Gold Rush Cup. Fishing Guides or anyone who is involved in a commercial enterprise that involves trout fishing will not be allowed to enter in the Amateur Qualifier. A two man Qualifier Team can enter for $250.

The Gold Rush Cup will be on Sunday, November 7th. The entry fee per two man team will be $500 as it was last year. The grand prize this year will be raised to $1500 plus two custom rods and more.

Everyone involved had a great time last year and we're expecting a bigger and better event this year. We already have five amateur teams and four Cup teams committed to participate. Since we're limited to a maximum of ten teams, you need to get your registration in ASAP if you would like to fish in the tournament.

Check out the Gold Rush Cup Challenge website for more details.

The Appalachian Slam

Our Chapter is sponsoring an award for the exceptional Trout Unlimited angler. We will award a member in good standing with Trout Unlimited a certificate if he/she catches and releases all three species of wild trout (brown, brook, and rainbow) using a fly rod and barbless hook in a single days fishing.

A member of our Chapter, Sherman Head, has already accomplished this feat and was awarded the certificate below.

Fly Tying Classes

Welcome!

Welcome to the Gold Rush Chapter's website. We hope it will help you understand just what our Chapter is all about, as well as Trout Unlimited's national scope and agenda. Our Chapter is comprised of anglers and outdoor enthusiasts who enjoy the outdoors, and the fellowship associated with fishing and working together to improve our cold water habitats.

Our Guiding Vision:

Ensure that by the next generation, robust populations of native and wild cold-water fish once again thrive in the North Georgia and National ranges so future generations can enjoy healthy fisheries in their home waters.

Our Mission Is Simple:

To conserve, protect and restore the cold water fisheries and their watersheds in the north Georgia area, while assisting the TU National organization to do the same at the national level.

Aside from fishing, our chapter stays busy with the work associated with achieving our Vision. Our projects and initiatives are wide ranging, and our accomplishments have been many. From regularly assisting various State and Federal agencies with stream improvement projects, to our own grant supported "Embrace A Stream" project on Cane Creek, to holding clinics and programs on basic through advanced fly fishing techniques, to educational partnerships with local high schools and universities, we have something for everyone.

Our chapter meets the first Tuesday of every month at Camp Glisson in Dahlonega, GA. Monthly programs offer topics ranging from fly tying, exotic fishing destinations such as Alaska and the American West, to presentations by experts on entomology and stream health, and sometimes - show and tell time by the members themselves. In all cases, your knowledge will be enhanced, and your skill improved.

If all this sounds like our Chapter might be a good fit for you, please accept our invitation to visit. Come out and join the fun anytime you can!
